Roscommon Chocolate Company is the brain child of it's founder, Karen Gordon - a lover of chocolate from childhood, whose professional interest was unexpectedly kindled in 2001 while on assignment in Paris. In Paris, the local chocolaterie is as much a part of the neighbourhood as the pub is in Ireland. At this time, her interest in chocolate confection became more than an aesthetic pursuit; the quest was on........
After her early retirement from a career as a Production Accountant in the motion picture business - involving extensive travel in Europe, North Africa, the Celtic Isles, US and Canada - she moved to Ireland to settle down and pursue her long-held interest in the manufacture chocolate confection. Her vision was to harmonize a great French couverture with highly prized Irish dairy products to produce an exceptional product.
The journey of discovery began in 2008 when she founded Roscommon Chocolate Company. Karen studied with world-class pastry chefs and chocolatiers in both Europe and the UK, mastering each step in the complex process of manufacturing high quality chocolate.
The company opened for business, full time, in July 2010, after completion of the production facility in Roscommon Town. With the assistance of the Roscommon Enterprise Board, Karen was able to expand production capability with the purchase of new specialized equipment required for the tempering of chocolate couverture.
The production staff of three persons, includes Patricia Feeney and Anthonine Walsh. They bring a variety of skills and unique talents to the organization and we are happy to have them 'on board'.
Karen's goal is to share the passion she has for her product, to explore the many, many taste combinations that are inspired from life's experiences, to produce a quality product from the finest, freshest ingredients available, and to maintain artisan traditions - traditions still held in high esteem in County Roscommon.
The goal has morphed into a journey.
